There is nothing as effective as knowing you have to do something by a certain time to ensure you think up twenty reasons not to do it. Whether it is completing a study assignment or something you promised your boss you would work on from home, suddenly the most mundane tasks seem strangely mesmerising.
The bathroom desperatey needs a thorough deep clean. All your bills need filing. Your CDs are crying out to be alphabetically categorised according to genre, date and band name. Banal and mediocre tasks assume a new persona. They draw you in and becoming essential and assume priority over all else.
Whilst I write this I should be writing learning materials for an A Level course. But, hey what can possibly be more important than procrastination?
